Tighten Door Lock

Step 1 stand on the inside of the door with the schlage deadbolt handle facing you.

Tighten door lock.

Hand thread the screws then tighten them using a screwdriver or power drill. If the latch in question is a door lock that refuses to turn easily try adding a few drops of graphite powder inside the keyhole of the lock. A loose door lock can cause problems with how easy you find it is to open your door. These lock sets both interior and entry models once the standard are now rarely used.

To tighten these door handles you need to figure and locate how some door locks work with secret levers hidden screws and plates that move. You can tighten a simple interior mortise lockset like the one shown at left as follows. Tighten the long screws that secure the lockset s mounting ring to the door. Open the door and tighten all hinge screws with a screwdriver. The good thing is that you don t have to wait for a locksmith to tighten a schlage deadbolt you can do it yourself. This will distribute the graphite and resolve the sticky lock. Snap on the decorative outer plate.

It s best to tighten the lock as soon as you notice that it is becoming loose to prevent more serious problems down the line. Attach the interior part of the deadbolt lock by inserting the two provided long screws through the interior plate the two screw holes in the bolt and into the exterior side of the lock. The knobs thread onto the ends of a square spindle with rounded threaded corners. These screws generally run all the way through the door and secure to the lockset mounting plate on the opposite side.

1 loosen the setscrew on the knob s shank. Then tighten the screw until you feel it resting against the flat side of the spindle. A setscrew located in the knob s sleeve tightens down on the square face of the spindle preventing the knob from turning on the spindle when operated. Next stick the key in the hole and turn it back and forth a few times.

2 hold the knob on the other side of the door and turn the loose knob clockwise until it fits snugly. If you re having trouble opening your door lock it s best to also make sure that it is clean and free from dirt or rust.
